How to play the math speed game

A sum appears on screen. Type the answer with the number pad or your keyboard; it is checked automatically as soon as you have typed enough digits, so the fastest players never need to press OK. Each level has ten questions and a time bar. Answer at least seven correctly to earn a star and unlock the next level, nine for two stars, and all ten with time to spare for three stars. A wrong answer costs two seconds and shows you the right result so you can learn from it.

Levels 1–2 are single-digit addition. Subtraction joins at level 3, times tables at level 5 and division at level 8. From level 13 you also get two-step questions such as 7 × 8 + 12, and the numbers keep growing up to level 20. 60s Blitz mixes everything: correct answers add a second to the clock, mistakes take away three, and the difficulty rises as your streak grows. Use P or Esc to pause.

Tips to calculate faster

• Learn the times tables to 12. Instant recall of facts like 7 × 8 = 56 frees your mind for bigger sums and makes division easy too.
• Add from left to right. For 47 + 38, think 40 + 30 = 70, then 7 + 8 = 15, total 85.
• Use friendly numbers. 99 + 46 is 100 + 46 − 1. 25 × 8 is 100 × 2.
• Subtract by counting up. For 82 − 47, count 47 → 50 (3) → 82 (32): answer 35.
• Accuracy first, then speed. A wrong answer costs more time than a careful right one.
